The Players, Arsene Or The Pitch, Who’s To Blame??

We blew it, its that simple, trips to OT have become recurring cases of DeJa Vu even on days when we play well. Au contra ire, yesterday’s showing was arguably one of our worst performances in recent times. Am I here to moan about how AW chooses to be blind to our problems especially as its so obvious a blind man can see it? No!! So what went wrong again?

Are the players un ambitious just as tight fisted as AW is, or is the Board’s continued greed and preference of money over trophies beginning to tell on our performances. Normally we’re out of the blocks early in games but from yesterday you could almost see the playing with the ‘hand break’ in full swing.

I wrote before the game that to contain Utd we needed to show discipline at the back, meaning Song had to sit permanently at the back, if only he read that post. How Wilshere continues to sit deeper than Song amuses me, Arsha continues to do as he pleases knowing fully well that his position is never under threat. Maybe that needs to change. I did not want to go there but Clichy deserves some rap for getting caught out continuously, waiting for the last minute to put in a challenge, credit to him for stopping Nani at times and yes, the penalty wasn’t his fault.

On a night that had few positives such as,

Wilshere holding his own against a packed midfield, hardly giving away the ball and standing up to Fletch and Anderson, you’d be forgiven to think he was 25. Rosicky could learn a thing or two from him

Szczesny on his first PL start put in an absolute class of a performance yesterday which has led to many calling for him to stay in goal till January

Sagna, AGAIN was our best defender and Nasri our best attacker if not the only one, which worries me each time he’s stuck out on the wings and rosicky is busy playing rubbish in the middle.

We conceded only one goal. It could have been different.

The lack of bite and precision, inability to string plenty passes together and no form of leadership proved our undoing as Vidic was made to look like a seasoned General of war and our whole attack like mere mortals. And to rub salt into injury, AW blames the pitch for the performance. Is he Stupid? Or is he a Comedian, a poor one at that.
When your team plays poorly the coach should be the first one to point that out and let them know how they’ve let down the fans instead of caressing their ego’s. For crying out loud, they get paid week in week out. How can one continue to defend a player like Koscielny and encourage Song to be a no 10 and not seem Mad??

Kozzer was missing for the first goal as he had lost an aerial challenge when the ball fell to Nani who teased before hitting a shot which deflected kindly for Park and how the little Asian got in front of Squid to nod past Chezzer is a mystery. Squid is like a Carrick in defence, doesn’t slide, doesn’t get dirty and doesn’t open his mouth.

Its the same problem every year, the same frustrations and the same complaints which has prompted many including Pedro of LeGrove to say AW is not the man for the job(I reserve my comments as that’s a tad far fetched, but I know it has played on our minds plenty times).

Stoke awaits us this weekend and as always we find ourselves depending on other results to save our season, let’s hope we can get the 3 points and then Utd lose to Chelski to make it more balanced. At least Fab is fit now and maybe a change of formation in the next game might suit us. We need to move on, and do so quickly.

From wherever you’re reading, keep the faith, its not easy but we will get there.

  1. U dey make sense!Your goalkeeper(his name is too complex jo) was good for an EPL debut! And i also think y’all shoulda used a different formation, using same as us at home didnt turn out so well! And as for AW,i reserve my comments! And like you said it coulda been different!Although it was a big win for us,it is not decisive so the EPL is still open!

  2. Yesterday’s result has no influence on my rant below:
I have no issues with Arsenal fans consoling themselves with statement like ”we sha play good football”.It’s their right. However, the irony is that Arsenal don’t actually play good attacking football. It is mediocre. The standard of attacking play has steadily declined down the years. The passing is laboured, the movement is nowhere as slick as even the 2007 team(not including the invincible era, that was bliss. The side’s team goals have steadily reduced over the years. The goals these days(season and last) mostly come from moments of brilliance or hustle,I have no issues with that. But for a team whose game is based on short passes, the fact that team goals are hard to come by highlight the ineffectiveness of their adopted style of play.
Whose to blame? Wenger. He took the plaudits when he brought great players(and personalities), its only appropriate to blame him for building an unbalanced side.
PS: I’m as neutral as fans come

  3. I’m I d only one that thinks fabregas was an absolute mess yesterday!!.I don’t think d result was fair a draw would hv been gd, manu dominated d first half however we responded better in d 2nd half, u jst have 2 commend d defence of our opponents. I wldnt be 2 hard on d players buh 2 win d league we have 2 play better. As for d pitch, although d pitch was below par, not a valid excuse.

  4. All I have to say is we are in trouble. I’m a realist when it comes to being a fan. As long as we don’t have what it takes to compete for the top spot I dnt believe we wld be able to beat chelsea or manu. Yesterday the only chance we had yesterday was taken with no finesse by Chamakh. I’m totally disappointed. Nasri,Wilshere & Sagna are the only sure players now. Even Fabregas plays rubbish. I’m still hopeful. Gunners 4 life.

  5. for me i will blame mr wenger for playing that pattern in our defeat

  6. Yesterday once again just how fragile our team . We did not even get going at all our pass were sloppy the defence midfielder was misssin (song) I really don’t knw his position anymore clichy was poor at least for allowing nano to get that far as for the two CB as usuAl useless squid just allow that tiny korean nod the ball I really don’t understand AW anymore.I just hope the next game is better .thank u

  7. Trust me I understand all wat you guys are feeling… Dnt worry as fans, there’s little we can do, let’s hope Kroenke or Usmanov takes over in d summer cuz its obvious wenger has become too comfortable and the board has to go. We need to pick ourselves up and win against stoke. Your comments are well appreciated as always

  8. Okay…i don’t care if I get slaughtered for this,but…
    1. Wenger’s comments about the pitch were altered.Y’all need to read the press conference again and you’ll get I mean.
    2. Both teams were bad, one a bit worse, conceding a freak goal.
    3. No need pretending that we love this club more than Arsene. He knows more than EVERYONE here n loves the club no less than any of us.
    4. We might be top again this weekend…only shows how poor everyone’s been.
    5. You want Usmanov or Kroenke? Take a look at Abramovich and Mike Ashley and tell me that’s what you want.
Yes, we were poor but so were United and so have Chelsea been. The table doesn’t lie.
Can you guarantee that these players you are making noise about will do the job? Jeffers…Reyes…Shevchenko…big names n big flops in England.
Let’s just thank God for wat we have…its nt rly as bad as it seems.
    OVA N OUT!

  9. It seems Arsenal fans are going to complain about Song not ”defending” all season.Get used to it,at least for this season. The problem is not him being so high up the pitch, esp in games where the opposing teams dont play a man in the hole(Ozil,VDV,etc) its with him repeatedly losing possession on the edge of the box

  10. @9jabred, well Said!!
