Arsenal agree fee for 19-year old striker + Other stories
Top of the morning wherever this post meets you. It was my birthday yesterday so I took a break off everything football. Consequently, this post will be as brief as they come.
So while I was partying yesterday, my darling Arsenal was fluffing its lines in what should have been a routine win. I did not see the game, so expressing my opinion will be grossly inappropriate.
From what I gathered,we conceded first, from yet another set-piece. It seems we have cultivated the habit of defending set-pieces. I know it was just a pre-season game, but we all know how much that cost us last season. One would expect that Wenger would have brought in a big centre-back to help us in such situations.
The only positive I can take from the game is the fact that Vela scored again. The decision to exclude him from the Copa America seems to be paying dividends already. This is to hoping he can carry on scoring into the business end of the season.
Manchester City’s latest recruit, Gael Clichy, this morning declared that he left Arsenal because he was tired of missing out on silverware.
The French man said he could have penned a new deal at the Emirates Stadium but could not face the prospect of more seasons like the 2010/11 campaign.
As annoying as this is, we cannot blame Clichy for seeking a new challenge because he gave his best while he wore the red and white of Arsenal. We can only wish him the best of luck.
So according to a fellow Arsenal blogger gunnerblog, we have agreed a fee of around $1.5m for 19-year old Costa Rican striker, Joel Campbell. His father, Humberto Campbell says that the deal will be finalised today, with Saprissa set for a final meeting with Arsenal’s envoy, Richard Law.
Campbell has agreed a five-year contract, including provision for him to wear his preferred number 12 shirt which is currently unoccupied at Arsenal.
So there you have it, we have also snapped up our 19 year old. It remains to be seen what part he’ll play in our title assault next season.
That’s all for today, expect a more comprehensive post tomorrow by which time Campbell should be officially a gunner.
